An outstanding pair of Staffordshire “comforter spaniels” in the rare and amusing “chunky bodied” style. A form of mantelpiece Spaniel, comforter dogs were usually created in pairs and were available in a variety of colors and sizes to suit every taste. A similar pair is pictured on page 89 in Clive Mason Pope's A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs. Excellent condition.
