This rare and intriguing Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre Imperial bowl, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones, displays the scenic Poplar Trees pattern, the first design produced under the title of Fairyland. This pattern is one of the Black Fairyland designs in which regularly spaced poplar trees reveal different views of an Italianate park. Always used on the outside of bowls, the pattern's golden swirls against a blue-black sky are balanced by the Cobble bead on the lower edge and foot rim.
The bowl's interior is equally fascinating. Here, the Woodland Elves I pattern is set against a mother-of-pearl background surrounding a Mermaid center medallion. An almost identical bowl is featured in Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre
