Exceptionally crafted and mechanically complex, this important bracket clock by Payne and Co. represents a significant rediscovery with a remarkable provenance. Almost certainly crafted for Sultan Abdülmecid of Turkey, this stunning timepiece is the sister to a slightly later example displayed by Payne and Co. at the Great Exhibition of 1851. Beautifully crafted and elaborately adorned in the shape and form of a Turkish palace, the complex clock displays an opulence and ingenuity that would undoubtedly have appealed to the Eastern elite.
