A dancing girl strikes a pose in this silvered bronze figure by the famed Josef Lorenzl. Lorenzl was a major producer of Art Deco figures, and this stylish figure recalls the risqué performers in the cabaret and clubs of Europe during the 1920s. Set upon a base of his signature carved green onyx, Lorenzl’s dancing girl is truly distinctive.

Josef Lorenzl was one of the best-known sculptors of the Art Deco period. Born in Austria in 1892, he is known for his exquisite depiction of scantily clad women with slim, boyish figures, a reflection of the 1920s flapper style, and sculpting them in various dancing or coquettish poses. A master of working with bronze, Lorenzl also worked with ivory, chryselephantine and spelter, and created ceramic figures for the renowned firms of Goldscheider, Katzhutte, Hutschenreuther and Keramos.
