Black Forest Billiard Scene Table

This carved table is a stunning example of Switzerland's famed Black Forest furnishings. Beautifully crafted of oak, this one-of-a-kind table presents a delightful ursine theme, with a quartet of bears playing a friendly game of billiards on the surface, and intrepid, glass-eyed cubs climbing the tree branch legs.

Originating in Switzerland in the mid-1800s, Black Forest is a distinctive European style that exemplifies traditional Swiss folk traditions. Among the most collectible decorative styles in the world, pieces are executed in hardwoods with rich, dark finishes and realistic carving. Motifs ranging from organic foliage to the various animals found in the forest were featured on furniture items such as benches, hall trees and chairs as well as smaller items like clocks, wall hangings and other objets d’art. To find such a wonderful example of this intriguing craft, in such outstanding condition, is quite rare.
