Britannia Standard Silver Plates by Anthony Nelme

This set of three Britannia standard silver plates was crafted by London silversmith Anthony Nelme. Each piece is deftly engraved with elements of the coat of arms of the noble Barry family, along with the motto, “Boutes en avant.” Anthony Nelme was one of the most successful English goldsmiths of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. He ran a large workshop, producing a great variety of wares ranging from elaborate, ceremonial pieces such as maces and pilgrim bottles, to domestic and ecclesiastical wares.
