This exceptional 19th-century ribbon node brooch features around 200.00 carats of Old Mine-cut diamonds, making it one of the few remaining brooches of its caliber. The brooch’s monumental size creates a striking visual effect when worn, further heightened by the diamonds’ dazzling brilliance. Further distinguished by royal provenance, the brooch is both a captivating treasure and a piece of history.

Henry Pelham-Clinton, the 5th Duke of Newcastle, commissioned the creation of the brooch for his wife, Lady Susan Hamilton in 1840. After Lady Susan first donned the magnificent brooch at Queen Victoria’s royal wedding, it was passed down through her generations as a cherished heirloom. It was later inherited by Kathleen Florence May Pelham-Clinton, Duchess of Newcastle — a renowned socialite, esteemed dog breeder and conformation show judge. She famously wore this radiant brooch at the Devonshire Ball in 1897.

Reputedly crafted by famed French jeweler Maison Bapst, the Crown Jewelers to the French court for decades, the gold over silver brooch harmoniously marries the warmth of the precious metal with the array of large pear-cut and cushion-cut diamonds, creating a captivating interplay of light and form. The design likely inspired Empress Eugenie's bowknot, an iconic jewel that is now in the Louvre.

The brooch comes set in its original fitted case.
