This impressive bronze bust of Emperor Napoléon was modeled after the famed bust by the French sculptor Antoine-Denis Chaudet. Chaudet's bronze is considered the official portrait sculpture of Napoléon, and it is undoubtedly the most recognized of the official effigies of the legendary leader. Since the original bust's creation in 1804 and Napoléon's subsequent approval of the work, a number of copies and reductions were made throughout the 19th century. One example is currently held in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, while another can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Neoclassical in style, this bronze bust is a wonderful example of this pervasive image of the Emperor.
