This stunning doré bronze fireplace fender, or andiron, is a treasure of French domestic luxury. The striking piece features an intricate grate comprised of Vitruvian scrolls, acanthus leaves and paterae flowers. Two classically-inspired architectural forms adorn the half-domed andirons, while two acanthus buds hold a pine cone-tipped bar. A staple of any well-appointed home, the fireplace fender was used to protect priceless rugs and flooring from flying embers or sparks. While serving as a barrier, it was also fashioned as an attractive objet d'art that leant elegance to any room.
