This whimsical and impeccably crafted sculpture is by the famed jeweler and sculptor Andreas von Zadora-Gerlof, a man commonly regarded as America’s Fabergé for his playful sculptures formed from gemstones. The artist has created a highly realistic black bear from a fine black jasper specimen, paying special attention to its anatomy and accenting its form with sparkling cabochon ruby eyes set in 18K yellow gold. Carved down to the last individual hair, this prowling beast is not only depicted with a high level of detail, but Zadora also manages to capture the distinctive personality and intelligence of the creature.

To create this work of art, Zadora hand-selected a precious stone that related to this animal’s signature characteristics and appearance and set the sculpture on a dazzling rock crystal base. Altogether, Zadora brings to this carving the same degree of imagination and perfection that characterizes his oeuvre as a whole.

The Canadian-born sculptor Baron Andreas von Zadora-Gerlof is recognized as the world’s leading gemstone artist, and his international clientele includes the world’s most discerning connoisseurs. His work, which ranges from intricate objets d’art such as these to innovative bespoke jewelry and sculpture, is regarded as the most prized decorative artwork in modern times.
