Chocolate was once a highly revered luxury item - it was used by the Aztecs as both food and currency. Spanish explorers brought chocolate back to Spain, where it became the “Kings’ Official Drink.” Towards the end of the 18th century, Europeans started preparing chocolate with milk and sugar to create what is now known as hot chocolate. The drink was so popular that many of the leading silver and goldsmiths began making specialized pots such as this to serve the chocolate beverage.
