Best remembered for his victory against Napoléon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, he also served twice as Britain’s Prime Minister, from January 1828 to November 1830 and again from November to December 1834. This set was given to Wellesley during his first tenure as Prime Minister on April 13, 1829, as a show of gratitude for his support of the Roman Catholic Relief Bill, and the hardwood case bears a finely engraved presentation plaque. The bill was the culmination of the process of Catholic Emancipation throughout the United Kingdom, and it permitted members of the Catholic Church to sit in the parliament at Westminster. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Without question, Paul Storr is considered one of history’s finest smiths, and he is known for perfecting the works, styles and designs of the Regency period.
