In addition to Royal Silver, the finest silver ever crafted was produced for International Exhibitions and World Fairs. This phenomenal three-color engraved tray by Elkington & Co., made for and exhibited at the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876, commemorates the American nation's 100th birthday. It is possibly the first engraved work of silver ever created. The tray features a scene of Fairmont Park in Philadelphia, the site of the Centennial Exhibition, and is a stunning representation of the master engraver’s art.

In the charming scene, a family plays with their beloved dog in the park, which would soon become a world-renowned site of technological advancements, industrial prowess and cultural achievements. The Centennial is the first official World's Fair in the United States and left a lasting impact on American culture and industry, symbolizing the nation's progress and potential on the global stage. Elkington & Co., the leading silversmith of the period, produced four engraved trays for the exhibition.

Known as one of the finest 19th-century producers of electroplate wares, Elkington & Co. created silver of exceptional design. Founded during the 1830s, the firm invented and perfected the art and science of silver plating, and they were awarded a patent for this revolutionary technique in 1838. Soon after, they began receiving commissions from the most esteemed clientele and the highest honors at the International Exhibitions. The firm was the supplier of flatware to the luxury dining sections of the Titanic and enjoyed years of Royal commissions from Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V and Edward VIII as well as the monarchs of Spain and Italy.
