This masterfully crafted and gold and enamel brooch was created by William Scheer, a contemporary of Oscar Heyman who manufactured jewelry for prestigious companies including Van Cleef & Arpels. Scheer's artistry and talent are on full display here as the iridescent blue and silver of the fish's scales possess a subtle shimmer, while the detail and subtle gradations of color give the piece both depth and texture. Crafted of 14K yellow gold.

This brooch was featured on page 66 of Masterpieces of American Jewelry by J. Price, a companion book to the 2004 exhibit Masterpieces of American Jewelry, the inaugural show of the National Jewelry Institute.
