One of the world’s rarest natural gemstones, a 0.84-carat fancy vivid blue diamond, centers this stunning ring. The sky blue oval-shaped jewel is certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as being a natural fancy vivid blue diamond with almost flawless VS1 clarity and even color distribution. This incredible stone exemplifies all the best qualities of this special color grading, and the result in this ring is a jewelry creation of extraordinary beauty.

Blue diamonds are second only to red diamonds in terms of rarity, and their remarkable color is due to the presence of boron. The more boron present, the more saturated the color, increasing the value of the stone at a staggering rate. It is very unusual to see a true-blue diamond with no overtones, as many display hints of gray or green hues, underscoring the rarity of the present stone. While blue diamonds have been discovered around the world, the percentage of blue diamonds mined each year is minuscule, with just a few stones recovered each year.

Because of their beauty and rarity, fancy blue diamonds command a great deal of attention at auction. In recent years, these jewels have set auction records across the globe for price per carat. In 2016, another vivid blue diamond, the 14.62-carat Oppenheimer Blue, was sold for a record-breaking $57.5 million at auction, making it one of the most expensive diamonds ever sold.

Beyond the auction house, some of the world's most historic diamonds exhibit a fabulous blue hue. The most celebrated is the famed Hope Diamond, arguably the most legendary natural colored diamond in the world. Originally purchased in India and sold to the French King Louis XIV, this gem has one of the most fascinating hues of any known diamond. Other blue diamonds include the Terschenko, a pear-shaped diamond smuggled out of Russia just before the Russian Revolution; the Wittelsbach, once owned by kings of Spain and Austria; the Eugenie Blue, reputed to have been owned by Empress Eugenie; and the incredible Regent.

The blue diamond in the present ring shares the beauty and allure of these historic stones. It is perfectly accented by two Argyle fancy vivid purplish pink diamonds totaling 0.35 carat and white diamond accents totaling 0.12 carat. All are set in a stylish platinum and ceramic shield setting.
