This classic secrétaire cabinet is a brilliant specimen of George III-period furniture and displays both the scale and perfect proportions for which the style is known. Crafted of Cuban mahogany that has aged to a rich patina, this desk features a drop-front writing desk that opens to reveal a spacious tooled leather writing surface and an array of compartments. Below, four lockable drawers provide even greater space for one's most important papers and correspondence. The interior is skillfully constructed with a choice of compartments in which to hide one’s important documents and valuables. Secret compartments are revealed behind nearly every surface, even behind the central, mirrored section. The expert craftsmanship of such a complicated item required the skill and attention of the finest cabinetmakers, to which its high level of quality can attest. Finishing touches such as elegant brass pulls, locks and bracket feet bring the design of this practical yet beautiful Georgian piece to completion.
