This George III silver coffee pot by Hester Bateman displays the superior quality and proportion for which she is known. Crafted in a classical urn shape, the elegant pot boasts Bateman’s signature beading along its crown and spout, as well as an urn finial set atop the hinged lid. Silver coffee pots such as this were seldom created, especially by a craftswoman with such prestigious position and clientele as Bateman. This was because coffee was primarily consumed by the lower class, while the more popular beverage of tea was preferred by the upper classes. This distinction and its near-flawless condition make this pot all the more spectacular.
