The large gadrooning along the shoulder of the cover is a striking feature, complemented by smaller gadrooning near the top, adding depth and texture. The cover is adorned with a finial of tied reeding, supported by lion heads, further emphasized by a calyx of acanthus leaves encircling a berry, creating a refined focal point. The dish itself features a gadrooned edge, beautifully embellished with shells and acanthus leaves, adding to its ornate design.
The accompanying Sheffield plate heater base is equally impressive, with delicate piercework decorating its surface. The cast handles and knurled feet provide both functionality and elegance. The base is inscribed with “Garrards, Panton Street, London,” marking its origin from the esteemed firm of Robert Garrard, Sr. The Garrard name has been synonymous with excellence in silverware, as the goldsmith to the crown as well as crown jewelers.
