This pair of George III-period silver wine coasters created by Hester Bateman exhibit meticulous pierce work. Accentuated by the famed female silversmith’s distinctive beaded edging, these coasters beautifully illustrate Bateman’s singular style and genius. Bateman created silver pieces that spoke of refined domesticity. Her light and precise touch, as well as her success as an 18th-century businesswoman, characterizes her work to this day.
