This pair of stunning cut cranberry glass jugs are mounted with gilt silver in a grapevine motif, indicating their intended use as wine decanters. The vibrant red glass vessels feature deep, precise cutting of fine caliber while the silverwork is intricately crafted, complete with broad leaves, vines and bunches of grapes applied to the body and lid. This magnificent, rich red color is achieved with the addition of precious gold in the molten glass, meaning cranberry glass items such as this were costly and produced in small quantities compared to clear glass objects.
