La maison de Koula en Normandie
(Koula's House in Normandy)

Signed "Lélia Pissarro" (lower left)
Oil on canvas

Infused with light and pure colors, this brilliantly hued composition by French artist Lélia Pissarro beautifully captures the calm tranquility of the French landscape. A sparkling pond commands the foreground, beautifully juxtaposed against the lush green foliage and pink-blue sky. A quaint house is spotted in the background, nearly blended into the surrounding landscape thanks to Pissarro's swift, post-impressionist-inspired brush work. The enchanting scene reveals the influence of her great-grandfather, the legendary Impressionist Camille Pissarro, and the generations of celebrated Pissarro painters that followed him.

The fourth generation in a long line of famous painters, Lélia seemed destined to pick up the paint brush. She sold her first painting to New York art dealer Wally Findlay at the age of just 4, and she exhibited her first work at age 11 at La Jeune Peinture in Paris. She would go on to exhibit in cities throughout France, as well as in Israel, New York, Switzerland, Boston, and London.
