Weighing a monumental 100.09 carats, this Paraiba tourmaline is an extreme rarity. This gem is heralded by its accompanying appendix letter from Gübelin — a high honor and a great rarity for a stone hailing from Mozambique. Remarkably clean for a gem of this size, the Gübelin certificate states that any evidence of heat treatment is undeterminable. Whereas most Paraiba gems hailing from Mozambique have a greenish tint, this rarity has the blue color for which the finest Brazilian stones are known for. The gemstone is complemented by a framing circle of glittering white diamonds totaling approximately 11.50 carats. Distinguished by its coveted hue – which mirrors the very best Brazilian Paraibas – and its remarkable size, this Paraiba tourmaline is a singular treasure.

Paraiba tourmalines were first uncovered in the copper-rich mines of Brazil in 1989. Later, examples from African mines were discovered in Mozambique and Nigeria. Compared to their coveted Brazilian counterparts, African Paraibas tend to display a greenish tint and can be heavily included. Finding a Mozambique Paraiba as clean and vibrantly hued as this example – let alone at such a monumental scale – is remarkable. Very few Paraiba tourmalines over 30.00 carats have been discovered, making this gemstone’s pedigree all the more impressive.
