Antonio Sandrini was the head of one of the most accomplished workshops in Florentine mosaic in the second half of the 19th century. Together with his brothers Carlo and Felice, he built the workshop’s reputation and they frequently exhibited their remarkable works in the Universal Exhibitions, receiving accolades in the Paris, London, Milan and even Philadelphia exhibitions. Similar pietre dure works from Sandrini are held in prestigious museum collections including a comparable work on view at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
