Porphyry and Gilt Bronze Tazza

A neoclassical motif, fine materials and superior workmanship distinguish this pair of tazze. Each tazza features three doré bronze classical dolphins holding aloft a porphyry and doré bronze bowl atop a porphyry plinth. Elegant in their detailing, the tazze convey a sense of stately luxury and drama.

Porphyry (derived from the Greek word for "purple") is renowned not only for its regal hue but also for its incredible hardness. Imperial porphyry is incredibly rare and is only found in the eastern desert region of Egypt. To find a large work of such incredible artistry carved from this stone is quite extraordinary.
