This set of 12 silver entrée plates by the inimitable London silversmith Paul Storr were crafted as part of the Onslow service. Edged with a gently gadrooned rim with shells, anthemion and foliate scrolls, the plates represent Storr’s superb Regency aesthetic. An engraved coat of arms for the Onslow family and likely for Thomas, 2nd Earl of Onslow, appears on the edge of each plate bearing the oxymoronic Latin motto, “Festina lente,” meaning “Make haste slowly.” Displaying an exuberance rarely seen in Storr’s work, these plates are truly of matchless quality.

Paul Storr is revered among history's most venerable silversmiths and is credited with perfecting the designs of the later Georgian and Regency periods. He entered his first mark in 1792 and went on to join the famed firm of Rundell, Bridge and Rundell in 1806 — the same year they obtained the Royal Warrant — but left in 1811 to pursue more creative freedom in his designs. His innovative decorative motifs and meticulous finishes earned him the patronage of some of the most powerful figures of the period, including King George III. Paul Storr's legacy is a remarkable body of work with far-reaching influences, and these plates serve as a testament to this silversmith's tremendous skill.
