This splendid tray by celebrated silversmith Matthew Boulton exemplifies the exceptional versatility of Sheffield silver plate. The tray is engraved with an armorial crest and finished with a gadrooned edge with elegant foliate flourishes. Boulton was one of the leading figures in the invention and production of the "Sheffield" process of hand-rolling silver over copper. Works by Boulton, especially those displaying such incredible design and craftsmanship, are among the finest of Old Sheffield plate and are most desirable.
