This important set of silver candelabra by famed English silversmiths Charles Reily & George Storer are some of the finest the firm ever created. An impeccable level of detail is imparted into this seven-light design — the foot and stem are modeled as upward-thrusting acanthus leaves with floral ornaments, while the reaching arms are modeled as chased vines and foliage. They reflect the remarkable sculptural quality of Reily & Storer’s greatest works and the popular naturalism that informed the age. This two-piece set represents the very highest quality and artistry of the firm’s output from the period.
Reily and Storer began their partnership as silverplate workers in 1829, working on Carey Lane in London besides a brief year spent on Paternoster Row in 1835. Working under the reign of King William IV and Queen Victoria, the partners created a wide variety of items, and the artistry of the firm allowed production in a multitude of different styles with finesse. Examples of Charles Reily + George Storer's works of silver can be found today
in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, including a highly decorative wine cooler and an exquisite neoclassical jug.
