Fashioned in the exquisite style of the Second Empire, this five-piece tea and coffee service is crafted from solid silver with remarkable details. While many services feature single-handed kettles, this service features a beautiful double-handled samovar, a true rariety. The handles are crafted from masterfully carved ebony, and the entire piece rests on a delicately scrolled ebony and silver base. Each item in the service is decorated with flowing interwoven ribs and adorned with foliage. The set also contains a magnificent silver tray, and comes in its original custom fitted oak chest lined in sumptuous red felt. The detail and artistry of these pieces are truly impressive. Bearing the prestigious “Minerve” hallmark, the set was crafted from the highest quality silver by celebrated goldsmiths Boin-Taburet, Paris. Credited for the revival of interest in Louis XV style silver-work in Paris in the late 1880, Boin-Taburet was awarded a gold medal at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle.
This crown atop the coat of arms on this service indicates it belonged to a marquis. Such a distinguished personage would have required the finest of everything, including beverages and what they were served in. Everything about this magnificent set exudes luxury, elegance and refinement.
