A total of 16 richly colored round and pear-shaped amethysts, nine round demantoid garnets and seed pearls combine to form a colorful garland in this British suffragette collar necklace. Suffragettes wore certain colors synonymous with the movement, namely green, white and violet, representing the call to action, "Give Women Votes." Jewelry set with gemstones in these symbolic colors became popular for wealthy supporters of the cause, and the present necklace is a splendid example. The gemstones are set in a delicate 15K yellow gold chain, making this necklace both beautiful and deeply symbolic.
