Housed in an intricately decorated 18K yellow gold case and boasting a complex movement, this Swiss grande sonnerie quarter-repeater pocket watch is a masterpiece both inside and out. Its full hunter case is hand engraved with two scenes; a gaucho spinning a lasso on horseback on the front cover in pursuit of two rheas, flightless game birds native to South America, depicted on the back. Opening the case reveals a strikingly beautiful silver watch face engraved with a gilt floral motif while rose gold Louis XV-style hands, Roman numerals and a subsidiary second dial indicate the time.

With a highly advanced movement for its time, the grande sonnerie could chime on the quarter-hour like a grandfather clock as well as perform on-demand like a minute repeater. Very few watchmaking firms could execute a magnificent timepiece such as this rare example.

Cuvette engraved "Medaille D'or Geneve, 1896, Grande Sonnerie, Repetition a Quarts, Ancre ligne droite Levers Visible, Double Plateaux, Balancier compense, Sprial Breguet 32 Rubis, No. 98562"; Movement marked with Patent No. "6835" inside the Swiss Federal Cross.
