This bold and unique serpentiform pedestal table is the work of renowned Italian artisan Umberto Bellotto. The creative design twists three slithering snake-shaped wrought-iron rods together to form a supportive base for an eye-catching red Venetian glass bowl. A prominent artist at the start of the 20th century, Bellotto was known for his collaborative multi-disciplinary works combining his wrought-iron craftsmanship with artisanal glass and also adapting the same wrought-iron patterns to textile design. He worked with several prominent artisans, most notably Murano glassmakers and Rubelli textiles. Bellotto's late Art Deco style is characterized by bold ornamental forms inspired by shapes from the animal and plant worlds and historic design from the past. This beautiful pedestal, with its slithering serpentine base and reflective vermillion bowl, embodies his signature aesthetic.

The son of a Venetian blacksmith, Umberto Bellotto invented and patented the combination of wrought iron and glass in 1910. His works were greeted with much success at both the Venice Biennale and the Monza Biennale. Some of Umberto Bellotto's most famous works include the majestic gate before Dante Alighieri's tomb in Ravenna and the wrought-iron bars over the windows at the Palazzo della Banca d'Italia in Venice.
