This exceptional Wedgwood jasper dip box exhibits the highly desirable crimson shade. Formed in a rare five-petal floral shape, this enchanting container is adorned with Wedgwood's signature classical figures in white bas relief, which contrast beautifully with the rich crimson jasper.
Jasperware is considered one of Josiah Wedgwood's most important contributions to ceramic art, and is the result of several thousand individual experiments. Consisting of a white stoneware body which can be colored by the addition of metal oxides, the composition of jasper was a most closely guarded secret. Crimson jasper pieces are especially desirable, as they were only produced by Wedgwood for a short period of time. To find one of these wonderful, highly collectible pieces is therefore quite rare.
