This Wedgwood crimson jasperware biscuit barrel bears the firm's signature neoclassical decoration and a lid topped by an acorn handle. Jasperware is one of Wedgwood's crowning achievements and is highly acclaimed for revolutionizing ceramic art. Consisting of a white stoneware body that could be colored by the addition of metal oxides, the composition of jasper was a most closely guarded secret. Crimson jasper pieces were only produced by Wedgwood for a short period of time during the 1920s and are extremely rare and highly collectible.
