Circa 1920

This stunning Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre bone china covered vase, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones, displays the highly coveted Rainbow pattern. Executed in bold colors and enhanced by an innovative iridescent luster glaze and gilding, the fantastical design inspired by the Bifrost bridge to Asgard epitomizes the incredible technical and creative superiority of this celebrated line of porcelain from Wedgwood.

Introduced by Wedgwood artist Daisy Makeig-Jones in 1915, Fairyland Lustre marked a decided departure from the factory's history of neoclassical design and subdued colors. Rather than Greco-Roman mythology, Makeig-Jones' work was rooted in fairytales, alive with scenes of nymphs, elves and fairies romping through enchanted forests and make-believe lands. Produced for only a short period, these works are extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors.

This pattern is detailed on p. 127 in Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre, 1975, by Una des Fontaines.

Printed "Wedgwood / Made in England" with Portland Vase mark and inscribed "Z4968"

9" high x 4" diameter
