Graced by elegant mother-of-pearl inlay, this William IV-period sewing box is at once a beautiful vessel for holding an array of sewing instruments. Upon closer inspection, underneath the bobbins, threads and pins is housed a cylinder music box mechanism. When wound and adjusted, the cylinder begins to play as soon as the lid is lifted, making the task of mending and sewing a truly pleasant experience.

The fully fitted interior showcases ample space for stowing all the necessities of the seamstress, plus much more. Some of the original tools within include mother-of-pearl bobbins, sewing shears, a thimble, pin holders and more. An assortment of storage compartments are found throughout, including the lid's interior, which has a fold-down panel to secure larger items such as fabric swatches or patterns. The exterior of the box is exquisite, with its classically-inspired sarcophagus form given an air of lightness thanks to the lovely foliate inlays and delicate bun feet.
