About Us

About Us

About us

M.S. Rau is an internationally recognized antiques dealer and a leader in rare and important antiques, fine art and jewelry. Our philosophy of ultimate client satisfaction has guided us for over a century, solidifying our commitment to building life-long relationships of trust with each client. Led by third-generation owner and published fine art expert Bill Rau, the gallery has grown by leaps and bounds since his grandfather Max Rau opened the doors to a then-small antiques store in 1912. Today, our 25,000 square foot gallery overflows with incredible antiques by names including Tiffany & Co., Paul Revere and Fabergé. Our unparalleled selection of important, original paintings and sculpture spans the 16th through the 21st century, created by legendary artists such as Brueghel, Monet and Rockwell, and our diverse selection of exquisite jewels, including rare colored diamonds, Kashmir sapphires and Burma rubies is without equal.

“Our philosophy has always been to offer clients only the very finest antiques, works of art and jewelry and to back every transaction with the highest level of customer service. Earning trust and delivering the best is our top priority. It’s the reason we are the largest antiques gallery in North America in terms of sales.” —Bill Rau, third-generation owner

M.S. Rau has matched clients with literally thousands of fine antiques, important paintings, and rare jewels, while building trust and forging relationships that span a century.

Each of our acquisitions is carefully selected by Bill Rau, documented and vetted by our team of experts and researchers, and supported by all levels of our gallery personnel, from our Executive Team to our talented support staff. What makes us unique is our attention to detail. Our primary mission is to provide our clients with an unparalleled buying and collecting experience.

If you don't find what you are looking for, please let us know. We have spent more than a century building an incredible network of contacts around the world and we are confident that our skilled team can assist you in finding just the right pieces for your collection. We hope you enjoy M.S. Rau

Corporate Responsibility

M.S. Rau is committed to finding new and innovative ways to save energy, reduce waste and minimize our environmental footprint. Over the past several years, we have implemented a number of initiatives in our gallery, including retrofitting our gallery to use motion sensor lighting and low energy light bulbs, eliminated the use of styrofoam peanuts and installed water coolers throughout our facility to discourage the use of plastic water bottles. We are a small company and our impact may seem humble...but little things add up. Read More About Our "Going Green" Efforts

Giving Back...The Rau for Art Foundation

Founded in 2011 by Bill Rau, the Rau for Art Foundation has assisted numerous young artists and school art programs in reaching their academic and professional goals in the arts. Each year, Rau for Art invites high school students from New Orleans and the surrounding area to participate in a themed art competition. Scholarships are awarded to the winning artists and program assistance is provided to their schools. See this Year's Winners and Learn More About Rau For Art

Beauty and an Education. What's Better Than That?

"One of the things I find myself doing a lot is spending time on this website. I love the things I see, but the other thing about M.S. Rau is that I can ask them questions about what I see and they can answer them and afterwards you are just a little bit smarter than you were. Beauty and an education. What's better than that???? I love them for that reason."
