HOW CAN YOU TELL IF STERLING SILVER IS ANTIQUE?

To tell if a sterling silver piece is truly considered to be sterling silver, the piece will usually be marked with a stamp. To check for the telltale mark, check your silver plate or silver flatware for a defining hallmark. For a sterling silver piece to be considered antique, the piece must be 100 years or older. For example, an Art Deco sterling silver spoon would be considered an antique sterling silver piece if it included both the defining sterling silver stamp and was over 100 years old. A mid-century modern sterling silver piece would not be considered antique silver due to it being included in a younger era.
