Imported 1902

This fascinating and rare Dutch silver seal and corkscrew from the importer Samuel Boyce Landeck exemplifies the fine craftsmanship of Continental utilitarian design. Crafted in the Netherlands and assayed in Chester in 1902, this silver combines functionality and artistry. The base of the item serves as a seal, while the top unscrews to reveal a corkscrew, making it a versatile and practical tool with a unique twist.

The hollow handle features intricate stylized leaf chasing, tapering elegantly with canted corners. Atop the handle sits a finely detailed horse and rider finial, showcasing Landeck’s dedication to detail and precision. The Minerva Head duty mark, indicating the item was assayed in Schoonhoven, and the Lion standard mark are stamped with a key, denoting the object's export quality.

Samuel Boyce Landeck, working at the turn of the century, was known for creating and importing functional yet artistically rich items. His works represent the best of both Dutch and English silver craft traditions. Additionally, this corkscrew was a part of the prestigious Red McCombs collection, which has been highly publicized and studied.
