A comparable cabinet by Hunsinger & Wagner can be found in the collection of the Museé d'Orsay, Paris, and is illustrated in Le Mobilier Francais du XIXime Siecle by D. Ledoux-Lebard, color plate XVI.

The firm of Hunsinger & Wagner is renowned for its marquetry utilizing fine and exotic timbers from around the world. Charles Hunsinger (1823-1893) began his business around 1859 as a fabricant de meubles de luxe et de fantaisie (maker of luxury furniture of fantasy). In December, 1872, he took on a partner, Charles-Adolphe-Frédéric Wagner, officially creating the firm of Hunsinger & Wagner. The partnership enjoyed many accolades during its decade-long existence, exhibiting at the Expositions Universelles of 1865, 1867, 1878 and 1889. He was awarded the gold medal at the Brussels Exhibition of 1881 and a médaille de progrès et de mérite at the exhibition of Vienna.
