Louis Comfort Tiffany’s discovery of what he coined “Favrile” glass in the mid-1890s had a significant impact on the American decorative arts. Favrile glass exhibits dichroic properties that give Tiffany glass a beautiful iridescence. His creations won awards at the Great Exhibitions and inspired other glassmakers such as Loetz and Quezal to create their own luminescent glass objects. Complete with its original bronze base, this lamp typifies Tiffany's interpretation of Art Nouveau.
