This silver salver features an intricately chased floral border, even gadrooning and a finely engraved surface, decorated with flourishing acanthus leaves and delicate flowers embodying the opulence and intricacy of early 19th-century silverwork.
Centered on the salver is the crest of the Follett family, accompanied by the motto "Quo virtus ducit scando," which translates to "I climb where virtue leads." The Follett family includes the distinguished Sir William Webb Follett (1796-1845), an eminent lawyer and politician, who is commemorated by an over-life-size marble statue in Westminster Abbey’s St. Michael Chapel.
Charles Fox played a key role in elevating English silver design during the Georgian era.
