Visually, the revolvers are remarkable. One has a .40 caliber while the other is a .36 caliber, both displaying a silver and blue finish. Both have 3 1/8 inch solid rib barrels and ebony grips, noted for their fine checkering and polished finish. The pistols still have a high percentage of their niter blue finish, with the frames showing bright silver and detailed engravings that speak to the quality of their construction.
These presentation pistols are inscribed with "J.R. Coopers/Patent" on the frames and bear the maker’s mark, "Thos. Williams/Liverpool," on the silver butts. Both revolvers feature elegant floral scroll engraving, sliding top safeties and ring triggers, adding to their refined design. The engraved Gothic initials “JC” on the back straps further enhance their distinguished appearance.
Thomas Williams, an active gunmaker in Birmingham around 1861-1863, is known for his fine firearms. These revolvers are housed in their original presentation case, featuring a fitted blue felt-lined interior and a Williams & Powell trade label on the inside of the lid. The case comes complete with period accessories, including a ball mold, Dixon & Sons Sheffield powder flask, two Eley cap tins, an S. Allport Improved cap dispenser, two unmarked containers and extra nipples. The hardwood box is artfully inscribed "Presented to Mr. Light by Mr. Moss," as a token of friendship and admiration.
