New York City’s first and oldest house of Christian worship is masterfully captured bathed in western sunshine in this original oil on canvas by American painter Marcia Gaylor. The historic Wall Street spiritual institution is thoughtfully profiled against looming Lower Manhattan skyscrapers and busy New Yorkers scuttling along downtown sidewalks. Sitting at the center of American investment, Gaylor’s Trinity Reflections represents values often forgotten amid the hustling economic activity of its Financial District location. On September 11, 2001, debris from the World Trade Center rained on Trinity Church, but the ancient structure and the neighboring Saint Paul’s Chapel remained largely undamaged. Still active today, Trinity Church served as a central hub for first responders and became an important landmark for 9/11 recovery efforts after a memorial site bloomed across its famed wrought-iron cemetery gates at the intersection of Wall Street and Broadway.
Based in California, Marcia Gaylor is renowned for her historical scenes that capture the New York City and Chicago stock market trading floors and vibrant financial districts. Before pursuing painting as a career, she earned a business degree and an MBA from the University of Southern California, and her financial background clearly influenced the direction of her art later in her life. Most of her paintings focus on the economic history of the United States as she captures the financial heart of the country's largest cities. The result is a body of work that stands in colorful tribute to the economy and the power of capital. Today, she remains an active member of the California Art Club, Oil Painters of America, Women Painters of America, as well as the American Impressionist Society.
