HALAPIC, May 2011--
A classic, Rolls-Royce picnic case designed in 1905 has been put on sale by M.S. Rau Antiques for $14,800.
In perfect condition, it contains a picnic service for four, two leather-wrapped stainless steel thermoses, four dishes with recesses for teacups, a matchbox and a variety of utensils including forks, mustard spoons, butter spoons and bone-handled knives produced by Joseph Fenton & Sons of Sheffield.
The bottom of the case houses two glass bottles (for water or wine), two flasks with fitted metal cups, an enamelled container, a kettle and burner, four teacups, four smaller glass bottles, ceramic mustard and butter pots, salt and pepper jars and a small tin. The case was also made to double as a footrest in the passenger compartment.
Rolls-Royce announced earlier this year it would be making picnic cases on special request.
