Exquisite tonal harmony sets apart this rare Grand Format cylinder music box by the Swiss firm Paillard of St. Croix. The exceptional box features a larger-than-average cylinder, which allows an extended, complex medley of four separate overtures: Semiramide by Rossini, Don Giovanni by Mozart, Sweet Spirit Hear my Prayer by Wallace and Masaniello by Auber.

The name of Paillard is listed among the giants of Swiss music box manufacturer. Known for its mechanical innovations, the company was instrumental in the development of advanced musical boxes in the 19th century, was one of the largest family businesses to be involved in the making of music boxes, and was a dominant supplier in Europe. Founded in 1814 by Moises Paillard, the company began by making musical box movements and was soon involved in all aspects of production. The firm was particularly renowned for having introduced and patented the successful Sublime Harmonie in 1874 and has perfected the interchangeable cylinder system.
