Two absolutely extraordinary stones combine in this ring. The first is a stunningly rare 8.05-carat Kashmir sapphire that is beyond compare. Displaying the velvety blue hue known in the jewelry trade as "Royal blue," the important gem is certified as natural, unheated and Kashmir in origin by the American Gemological Laboratories, the Swiss Gemological Institute, and Gübelin Gemlab. Finding any example of a Kashmir sapphire is a rarity; to find an unheated example weighing over 8 carats – particularly of such extraordinary quality – is truly exceptional. As the stone’s certification from the Swiss Gemological Institute states, the stone "...possesses extraordinary characteristics and merits special mention and appreciation... A natural sapphire from Kashmir of this size and quality is rare and exceptional.”

Sapphires hailing from the Kashmir region are undeniably the pinnacle of this popular variety of corundum. Unearthed in the early 1880s after a landslide in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent, Kashmir sapphires are revered not only for their general scarcity but also for the softness of their velvety blue hue. And, unlike other colored gemstones, the stone’s incomparable color overwhelms any kind of light. This stone, in particular, with its antique cushion cut, is exceptionally brilliant with a high relative clarity and heightened degree of transparency.

The sapphire is perfectly matched by an equally rare cushion-cut white diamond weighing 4.25 carats. This rare stone is certified by the Gemological Institute of America as being D color and Type IIa, meaning it lacks any trace of nitrogen. Nitrogen is the element that gives diamonds color, making this gem a full two shades whiter than the whitest D-color diamond. It is also one of only a handful of Type IIa diamonds that are also internally flawless, a distinction that enhances both its beauty and rarity. Representing the very finest of their types, both stones are set in platinum.
