Unique Characteristics
Golconda diamonds are categorized as Type IIa, indicating that these stones contain no nitrogen impurities. Nitrogen typically imparts a yellowish hue to diamonds; without it, Golconda diamonds can transmit UV and visible light more effectively than other diamonds. This remarkable purity renders them extraordinarily transparent, often appearing two to three shades whiter than other D-color diamonds.

Less than 2% of diamonds mined worldwide qualify as Golconda type. Their rarity is such that many jewelers and gemologists may never encounter one in their careers.
