Queen Mary (Mary of Teck, 1867–1953), consort of King George V and grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II, was instrumental in shaping the modern British monarchy. Born into the British and German nobility, her modest upbringing fostered intellect, discipline and a strong sense of duty. She married George V in 1893, becoming Queen Consort from 1910 to 1936, during which she supported him through World War I and the transition of the British Empire into the Commonwealth.
Known for her composure and dedication, Mary emphasized tradition and stability during periods of social and political upheaval. She guided the royal family through crises like Edward VIII’s abdication, and she mentored Elizabeth II, instilling values of duty and reverence for tradition. A renowned collector of art and jewelry, Mary’s legacy includes iconic designs like the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara and this incredible pearl and diamond brooch. She remained a key figure in the monarchy until her death in 1953, leaving a lasting influence on the royal family.
