Yard was renowned for his exceptional workmanship and use of only the finest gemstones, and this brooch. . .
Yard was renowned for his exceptional workmanship and use of only the finest gemstones, and this brooch is no exception. Each rabbit waiter varies in its costume and featured cocktail, making every example a singular work of art. This remarkable jewel is adorned with 54 exquisitely matched fancy deep bluish violet diamonds totaling 0.87 carat, which form the rabbit's charming jacket. Violet diamonds remain among the rarest and most coveted of all fancy color diamonds. To assemble 54 well-matched purple diamonds in a single design is truly remarkable.
The brooch sparkles with an additional 1.06 carats of round white diamonds, making up the rabbit’s fur. It also features two trillion cut and 30 baguette cut white diamonds, totaling 0.89 carat, including delightful details such as two ice cubes in the champagne bucket and the sparkling cocktail glasses. Accents of five deep blue sapphires and four vibrant rubies enliven the waiter's handsome jacket collar, trouser cuffs, champagne bucket and towel, totaling 0.93 carat. Platinum and 18K yellow gold create a luminous contrast, beautifully accented by black enamel details in this exceptional Art Deco–style design.
Raymond Yard's rabbit brooch designs quickly became synonymous with his brand—frequently appearing personified as dapper gentlemen, fishermen and even palace guards—but the waiters are certainly the most sought-after and collectible. In the age of American enterprise, the revered New York jeweler was creating one-of-a-kind jewels like this one for famous clients, including the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Woolworths and DuPonts. Credited with elevating the Art Deco aesthetic to new heights, Yard's innovative designs and exceptional craftsmanship are truly timeless, continuing to inspire and delight today.
