Lemon Squeezer Hammerless Safety .32 Caliber Revolver
Decorated by Tiffany & Co. and produced by Smith & Wesson
Circa 1886

A prime example of American craftsmanship at its finest, this rare Smith & Wesson "Lemon Squeezer" revolver is beautifully engraved and fitted with Tiffany & Co. silver grips. This extraordinary gun represents the skill, vision and luxury design Tiffany & Co. was renowned for at the height of its influence.

Crafted circa 1886, this early .32 caliber revolver features a 3-inch barrel and a unique hammerless safety design, with intricate engraving across the frame demonstrating the technical mastery of Smith & Wesson. Beginning in the 1860s, Tiffany & Co. partnered with the titans of American firearms, including Smith & Wesson, to elevate their standard-issue guns into one-of-a-kind works of art. These opulent presentation pieces served as symbols of the artistic and industrial might of late 19th-century America, and fewer than forty examples are known today, with many housed in museum collections.

Tiffany & Co., celebrated for its decorative swords presented to American officers during the Civil War and the Mexican-American War, expanded into firearms in the 1860s. The company initiated partnerships with American firearms manufacturers Colt, Derringer and Smith & Wesson, becoming a major retailer of pistols with sterling silver cladding, elaborate etching and precious embellishments. Each was custom-crafted and entirely unique, reflecting key styles established by the firm’s lead designer, Edward C. Moore.

These exceptional firearms were showcased as centerpieces at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, with nineteen examples on view between Tiffany & Co. and Smith & Wesson's displays. Examples of firearms decorated by Tiffany & Co. can be found in museums worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Royal Armouries.
